From where does our name come? Which meaning does it have?

former times if the owners (knight, count) had money debts, then these erased by the sale or hiring of countries, monasteries and the body-own due to it. Usually only office writers or people could from the monastery read and write and led the books due to it. Thus also the way of writing of our name was changed. I found some ways of writing out: Heptinger, Ebting, Ebding, Ebendinger, Ebdinger, Ebtinger, Erpendinger; Epptink; Eppding; Epding, Eptinger and Epting. Some variants disappeared in the course of the time. The same persons with different way of writing always dip.

Our great-grandparents spoke “Swabian”.

My investigations showed that our ancestors originate from Württemberg, southern Schwarzwald (Königsfeld- Baden). First denomination of the name Epding is in the year 1595.

In 17. and 18. Century walked some families from Württemberg in the Area around the Weichsel sew Kulm, Kulmsee (today's Poland) out. In the “Kulmerland” the Swabians united into so-called “Swabian villages” and were called: Brosowo, Unislaw, Segartowitz (Segertsdorf), Czyste, Rainau, Dombrowken, Lippinken, picture-beautifully, Skompe. The names emerge again and again in the family family tree. From historical documents I experienced; it was the thought Friedrich d. Große one to settle the efficient farmers in the “Kulmerland” to develop villages and increase the population numbers. In 19. Century, in the period of 1776-1786, again more than 250 Swabian families (also EPDING's) into the “Swabian villages” walked. The purposeful, regular structure of the villages was in economic regard of great importance. Settlement history from nearly three centuries brought a fruitful region out on the banks of the Weichsel. These farmers, from Württemberg, Palatinat and bathing, gave a new face to the Area around the Weichsel.
